The Intensive Care Unit

The new Intensive Care transfer frame, which was purchased following a generous donation from the Aman Kapila Memorial Fund, came into service in September 2009. It has been welcomed by the staff on Intensive Care as it has made the transferral of Intensive Care patients a lot easier.

The frame hooks onto the end of the patient's bed. Attached to the frame are the ventilator, infusion pumps and monitors. Transferring a patient on a ventilator is a relatively high-risk undertaking and the frame has made this process a lot safer.

It is used within Royal Berkshire Intensive Care to transfer patients to theatre for operations, down to the X-ray department for scan, and to help move sick patients from the general hospital wards to Intensive Care.
